European Athletics has invited its 50 Member Federations to name the national winners of the fourth edition of its biennial Women’s Leadership Awards.
Each federation has the right to select a winner and thereby recognise accomplishments that are a significant contribution to athletics in areas other than competitive success and serve as an example of leadership and other values of the sport.
The national winner from Switzerland will be the first to receive her prize, which will be given when the European Athletics Golden Tracks awards evening comes to her country on 17 October in Lausanne. The other winners will receive their awards at ceremonies organised by their federations.
All the national winners will receive a Women’s Leadership Awards certificate and an artist signed copy of original artwork prize from European Athletics.
The artwork prize will be selected from a competition open to painters, designers and other artists across Europe. The winning work will be determined by a public vote organised by European Athletics. Entry submission information here.
Alongside the awards, European Athletics will give three scholarships to a specially designed training programme for young women identified by their federations as future leaders in the sport.
These awards and the scholarships are the centrepieces of our strategy to promote the women leaders we need in athletics. We hope that they will raise awareness about the good work women are doing and promote the winners as role models for others in the sport.
