Great Britain's Jo Pavey is in line to compete at the European Cup 10,000m in Bilbao on 3 June. If selected for the event, she would hope to compensate slightly for the disappointment of missing out on Olympic marathon selection earlier this week.

She now has her sights set on competing in London on the track and Bilbao 2012 is an opportunity for her to put on her spikes and work towards a place on the track team for the Olympics.

It would be Pavey's second appearance at the European Cup, after finishing fourth in 2007 and she would be hoping to become just the second British woman to get a medal at the event.

Her compatriot Paul Radcliffe won in 1999 and 2001 as well as getting the silver medal in 1998 but no other British woman has been on the podium.

Pavey, now 38 has been one of Europe's top distance runners in the last decade with a remarkable record of consistency at the highest level but has so often just missed out on the medals.

She has made 5000m and 10,000m finals at the last three Olympic Games and can also point to finishing fourth over the longer distance at the 2007 World Championships.

Pavey, now 38, has also finished fifth and fourth in the 5000m at the 2002 and 2006 European Athletics Championships respectively and can boast of an impressive personal best of 68:53, set in 2008, over the half marathon distance.

However, her only honour from a major international championship was a bronze medal at the 2004 SPAR European Cross Country Championships.
