President Wirz is today (Sunday 9 June) celebrating this milestone with his wife Trudi while on a short break in France.
His birthday follows that of IAAF President Lamine Diack's 80th birthday on Friday, meaning the world governing body and European Area Association can boast 150 years of athletics experience at the helm of the two organisations!
President Wirz, in his fourth and final term as European Athletics President following his election in 1999, continues with mission to develop the sport on the continent, and has continued his extensive travels throughout the continent.
Recently, the President, from Schaffhausen, Switzerland, attended the 2013 Games of the Small States of Europe in Luxembourg.
