The final entries for the European Athletics U23 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland which begin on 13 July are now available to view here.
One of the most hotly awaited events of the championships will be the women’s javelin which features Olympic champion Sara Kolak from Croatia. She will go head-to-head with Eda Tugsuz who Türkiye, who leads the world lists with a lifetime best and European U23 record of 67.21m set in Baku in May.
Another senior champion in action in Bydgoszcz will be Max Hess, who became the youngest ever European outdoor triple jump champion in Amsterdam last summer. Hess caused a stir in qualifying at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade where he sailed out to a German record of 17.52m before winning bronze in the final and he comes fresh from a win at the European Athletics Team Championships in Lille.
Yasemin Can has already won a brace of European senior titles, including the 5000m and 10,000m titles at the European Championships in Amsterdam last year. The Turk will be aiming for another long distance double on the road to the World Championships in London.
While Can won the senior title at the European Cross Country Championships in Chia last December, Germany’s Konstanze Klosterhalfen defended her title in the U20 race. Having already broken the four minute-barrier for 1500m this season, the 20-year-old starts as the outstanding favourite to claim U23 gold in Bydgoszcz.
Norway’s Karsten Warholm has also made a sizeable breakthrough this summer, setting Norwegian records in the 400m (44.87) and 400m hurdles (48.25). Unbeaten this year, Warholm has entered both events in Bydgoszcz.
The hosts’ medal hopes will be led by European indoor champion Konrad Bukowiecki, who leads the European U23 shot put rankings by more than a metre. Ewa Swoboda (100m), Sofia Ennaoui (1500m), Daria Zabawska (discus) and Barlomiej Stoj (discus).
