On an official visit to Moscow on Monday, European Athletics President Svein Arne Hansen and IAAF President Sebastian Coe met with Russian Olympic Committee President Alexander Zhukov.
President Hansen presented Zhukov with a plaque of recognition for his services to the sport of athletics in Europe.
Hansen and Coe were also welcomed by All-Russia Athletics Federation President Vadim Zelichenok and General Secretary Mkhail Butov.
“I had a very productive meeting with President Zhukov in which we discussed the opportunities and challenges athletics faces in Russia,' said President Hansen.
“Russia hosted a very successful European Athletics Team Championships in Cheboksary in June this year, and is very keen on hosting larger-scale athletics events in the future. So it was very important to get a detailed understanding of what they are planning for, and for me to outline what is required of the national federation going forward.”
While at the NOC headquarters, Hansen and Lord Coe met with a group of Russian national team coaches.
Later on Monday, they were set to take part in the ARAF annual conference before attending its gala awards dinner.
