A delegation from European Athletics headed by European Athletics vice president Frank Hensel visited Tilburg for a two-day site visit ahead of the SPAR European Cross Country Championships on 9 December.
Together with the Local Organising Committee, they discussed the progress of the preparations for what will be the 25th edition of the annual event. This event will take place on a traditional cross country course at the Safaripark Beekse Bergen. The park opened a new Safari Resort only last week.
“Because the Safari Resort was opened last week, this was the perfect date to invite our European Athletics colleagues to this fantastic location. The team was very satisfied with the progress we have made. That gives the LOC new energy for the upcoming months,” said Cees van Loon, chairman of the LOC.
After the two-day visit, Hensel said he was pleased with the pace of preparations ahead of the championships. “I am confident in what I have seen from the LOC. I am very pleased with the strong vibes and feelings of cooperation between the LOC and the European Athletics staff. We look forward to a fantastic SPAR European Cross Country Championships on what will be the 25th anniversary of this important event,” he said.
Tilburg also staged the 2005 edition of the SPAR European Cross Country Championships.
