Hungary’s men and Spain’s women won at the European Cup Combined Events Second League meeting in Ribeira Brava, Portugal, on Sunday.

However, the individual performance of the weekend was without doubt that of Lithuania’s Austra Skujyte, a silver medallist in both the 2004 Olympic Games heptathlon and 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships pentathlon, who won the heptathlon with an excellent 6338 points

She scored 3821 points on the first day – including a 1.87m high jump and 16.81m shot put – and her second day results of a 6.11m long jump, 47.34m javelin and 2:19.89 800m, meant that she finished over 600 points clear of Hungary’s Judith Nagy, who finished second with 5696 points.

In fact, Skujyte was the individual winner of all the four field events. The decathlon winner was Latvia’s Edgars Erins with 7513 points.

Hungary’s three scorers in the decathlon totalled 20922 points, more than a thousand points ahead of Latvia’s tally of 19917 points. Romania was third with 18724 points and Türkiye fourth on 16557 points.

In the women’s team competition, Spain scored 16421 points to finish ahead of Romania, who had 16078 points. Despite Skujyte’s heroics, Lithuania had to settle for third with 15062 points while Türkiye were fourth with 12218 points.
