Slovenian club A.D: Kronos Ljubljana and Switzerland’s L.G. Erdgas Oberthrgau won the men’s and women’s contests at the combined European Champions Club Cup Track and Field Juniors Group B and C matches in Rieti, Italy, on Saturday.

The pair get promotion to next year’s top flight competition.

Kronos Ljubljana ran out comfortable men’s winners with a tally of 140 points from the 19 events, 21 points clear of Denmark's Skive A.M. who came out in front of the close race for second place with 119 points.

Among Ljubljana’s winners was the 17-year-old Mitja Lindic, who took the 400m hurdles in an unpressed 54.69 and he will have medal aspirations for next year’s European Athletics Junior Championships in Tallinn, Estonia.

Lindic later combined with his brother Matej to form half of Ljubljana’s winning 4x400m team.

The top marks in the field events came when Denmark’s multi-talented Marquis Richards - who also ran the opening leg on Skive’s victorious 4x100m relay team - cleared 5.00m in the pole vault while Slovakian hammer thrower Tomáš Kru…¾liak, last year’s European Youth Olympic Festival winner and the bronze medallist at the World Youth Championships, sent his implement out to 66.57m.

The women’s competition was a much closer encounter with less than 10 points covering the top three teams, but Erdgas Oberthrgau prevailed with 158 points.

A key factor in the Swiss team’s success was their overall consistency despite getting only one individual victory, Lena Weiss winning the 100m in 12.33 before also running the anchor leg for her club’s winning 4x100m quartet.

The best performance in the field events came from Slovakia’s Jitka Kubelova, who sent the discus out to 50.33m.

Special mention should also be made of Rotterdam Atletiek’s Maureen Koster, who pulled off an unusual 800m and 3000m double.
