Polish pole vaulter Piotr Lisek and Lithuanian high jumper Airine Palsyte have been voted European Athletes of the Month for January.

Voting for European Athlete of the Month took place through our European Athletics Twitter and Facebook pages over the past week. Athletes with the most combined Twitter ‘retweets’ and Facebook ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ were crowned the winners.

With more than 2,000 combined likes, retweets and shares, Palsyte won the women's voting having cleared a national record 2.00m in Vilnius.

The European silver medallist from Amsterdam last year will be among the favourites for gold at the upcoming European Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade.

Lisek has shown tremendous improvement during this early winter season having cleared a national record 5.92m in Cottbus which he then followed up with his first 6-metre clearance in Potsdam.

In Belgrade he will most likely provide the biggest challenge to Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie who was won gold at the past 4 editions of the European Athletics Indoor Championships.
