  • A new-look for the fourth edition of the Burnley 10K

The streets of Burnley will burst into colour on 5 June when runners take part in the new-look Asda Foundation Burnley 10K, an event which has been certified as a 5-Star Quality Road Race by European Athletics Running For All.

The fourth edition of the event was launched earlier this year at the city’s football ground Turf Moor and entrants will tackle a new route that starts and finishes in the picturesque Towneley Park.

The event is expected to raise tens of thousands for good causes and this year’s partner charities are: Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Macmillan Cancer Support, Pendleside Hospice, Burnley Leisure Trust, Every Action Has Consequences and Burnley FC In the Community.

Organised by Run For All, the race is part of the legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson who took on a series of endurance challenges raising nearly £2m for charity, despite being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The race forms part of the hugely popular Asda Foundation 10K Series, which also includes 10km races in Leeds, York, Hull, Lincoln and Nottingham.

Asda Foundation Senior Manager Julie Ward said: “There is always a wonderful atmosphere at the Burnley 10K, which is a fantastic event that supports the work of some excellent causes. It promises to be another great day and good luck to all those taking part.”

The Mayor of Burnley Jeff Sumner said: “It’s great to see the popular 10K run come back to Burnley for the fourth year in a row. This time it comes back not only with a new name but also with a new route, starting and finishing in the award-winning Towneley Park, with Towneley Hall as a stunning backdrop. The event promises to be a wonderful advert for our town.

“Whether you’re running or supporting those that are, I’d like to congratulate everyone taking part in this event. I hope we get some big crowds to cheer on the runners and support this very worthy cause.”

Run For All Events Manager Charlie Tatman said: “The Burnley 10K is already a highly-regarded event and the new route should make it even better. We look forward to welcoming all those taking part.”
