  • Olympic silver medallist Henriksen named on Norway’s team for Leiria

Olympic hammer silver medallist Eivind Henriksen is the standout name on Norway’s team of eight athletes for the European Throwing Cup in Leiria, Portugal on 12-13 March.

Henriksen broke the 80 metre-line for the first time in his career in the Olympic final in Tokyo last summer, smashing his Norwegian record with 81.58m to win silver behind Poland’s Wojciech Nowicki.

Not only will this be Henriksen’s season’s debut, this will be his first appearance at the European Throwing Cup since 2018 when Leiria last staged the event.

Four years ago, Henriksen was among the winners but only in the ‘B’ final. However, his ascent is such that Henriksen will be contesting for victory in the main event next month.

The Norwegian team also includes 2017 European U20 champion Marcus Thomsen in the shot put and Sigrid Borge in the javelin, the latter also winning in Leiria at the 2018 edition of the European Throwing Cup.

The full Norwegian team can be found here.
