Norway's Hans Olav Uldal produced a season-best performance of 7702 points to win the individual Decathlon title at the European Cup Combined Events 2nd League in Maribor, Slovenia, held over the weekend.

Taking full advantage of the absence of overnight leader Slaven Dizdarevic of Slovakia, who pulled out of the final event of 1500m, Uldal romped home with a strong finish ahead of Greece's Andreas Tsoukalis, who finished second with a personal-best 7311, and Romania's Bogdan Barcacila, who accumulated 7175 points - again a personal best.

Belgian Sara Aerts emerged as the top performer in the Heptathlon with 6011 points, while Judith Nagy of Romania finished second with 5256 points. Lene Secher Myrmel of Norway finished third with 5174 points.

The Romanian men's team with 20269 points and Hungary with 19760 earned promotion to the 1st League, finishing in the first and second positions in the overall team standings.

Greece followed next with 19454, with Lithuania (18904) and Türkiye (18458) occupying the bottom two positions.

Hungary's women's team topped their table with 14454 followed by Austria with 14011. The two teams were promoted to the First League for 2010. Lithuania (13928) and Slovenia (12290) were the other two women's teams in contention.
