Poland’s Ewa Swoboda and Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen have been voted men’s and women’s Athlete of the Month for February across social media.

Voting opened across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram on Monday and both Swoboda and Ingebrigtsen emerged as the decisive winners. Swoboda tallied 6078 votes across the three platforms ahead of Great Britain’s Laura Muir (4027 votes) while Ingebrigtsen totalled 6077 votes ahead of Poland’s Piotr Lisek (2759 votes).

Swoboda enjoyed a brilliant run-up to the Glasgow 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships, winning 11 of her 12 races over 60m. She opened her season with a 7.08 clocking in the heats in Karlsruhe which was the joint fastest time by a European sprinter this season.

Ingebrigtsen was in equally prolific form last month, winning his two 1500m races and setting world indoor U20 records in both races. Ingebrigtsen, 18, opened his season with a 3:36.21 to win on home soil at the Nordenkampen in Baerum before taking the scalp of world indoor record-holder Samuel Tefera from Ethiopia in Dusseldorf where he clocked 3:36.02.

Swoboda was nominated alongside Muir, Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands, Konstanze Klosterhalfen from Germany and neutral athlete Anzhelika Sidorova while Ingebrigtsen was nominated alongside Lisek, Spain’s Orlando Ortega, Great Britain’s Reece Prescod and Switzerland’s Julien Wanders.
