Tallinn – land of athletics

Home

The press conference for the European Athletics Team Championships First League in Tallinn was held at the Kadriorg Stadium in the charming setting of the forested paths of Kadriorg Park.

Jonas Egilsson, European Athletics Council Delegate from Iceland, began by pronouncing the city the unofficial land of athletics: “By the time Tallinn hosts the European U23 Championships next year, it will have organised five events or conferences in the past six years” he announced.

He went on to stress the benefits this brings to European athletics: “It is very important to have an experienced team to ensure quality,” he insisted.

The scale of the Championships is important: “This weekend over 300 athletes will be competing, making this one of the biggest sports events in Europe this year.”

Egilsson finally singled out the invaluable help of more than 100 volunteers who are helping to make the event run smoothly: “So a big thanks to them and the Local Organising Committee for making this happen.”

Erich Teigamägi, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and President of the Estonian Athletic Association, concluded by welcoming the teams and “offering our best hospitality and conditions for a successful Championships.”
