Ivan Ukhov and Svetlana Shkolina are taking steps towards to the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Prague.
Russia's leading high jumpers are preparing for their winter season where they aim to culminate it in bidding for gold at the 02 arena in the Czech Republic's capital in March.
And for Ukhov, the Olympic champion, it will be a return to a venue of one of his greatest triumphs.
In February, on a night when he needed just four jumps, Ukhov soared to 2.42m, equalling the European record with a stunning performance at the Praha 2014 event.
It came during an incredible winter of competition where Ukhov produced one of the finest periods of indoor high jumping the sport has ever seen.
He also cleared 2.41m, 2.40m and 2.38m on three occasions.
One of those 2.38m jumps came at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot where he was beaten to gold on countback by Qatar's Mutaz Barshim.
He ended the winter as the world No. 1 and will return to Prague with a superb record at the European Athletics Indoor Championships where he has twice struck gold.
He took his first title in Turin with 2.32m in 2009 and then two years later in Paris, he retained the crown with 2.38m. The following year the same height brought him Olympic glory in London.
Shkolina, who was fourth at those European Athletics Indoor Championships in Paris, is the world champion after her glory in Moscow in the summer of 2013 but injury prevented her from competing this year.
She is back in training and their coach Sergey Klyugin, speaking to All-Sport, confirmed their plans.
He said: 'Svetlana recovered after injury, Ivan took a rest. Therefore, everything is in order. Now we’re getting used to training. (The) first competitions we plan are for the beginning of January.'
The European Athletics Indoor Championships take place in Prague from 6-8 March.
