The World Broadcaster Meeting for the Zürich 2014 European Athletics Championships took place 29-30 October, with International Broadcasters from across Europe in attendance.
The Zürich summit was led by the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR), the Host Broadcaster of the 2014 European Athletics Championships.
About 80 representatives from the BBC, NRK (Norway), France Télévisions, NOS (Netherlands), SRG TV/Radio, SRG SSR (Switzerland), YLE (Finland), ARD, ARD/NDR, ARD/SWR, ZDF (Germany), TV4 (Sweden), TVP (Poland), RAI (Italy), Eurosport, Eurovision, the local organising committee and European Athletics took part in discussions.
The meeting began Tuesday with welcome speeches from European Athletics President Hansjörg Wirz, Zürich 2014 CEO Patrick Magyar and SRG SSR Head of Sports Urs Leutert.
President Wirz said, “I am sure that with this meeting European Athletics, the European Broadcasting Union, the Host Broadcaster SRG SSR and the Zürich 2014 Local Organising Committee will go some way to achieving our objectives of producing a spectacular event next year, taking into account the views and needs of all the stakeholders involved.”
At the previous six-day European Athletics Championships in Barcelona in 2010, a total television audience of 368 million watched the action unfold. Seventy-six sports broadcasters produced 1,583 hours of coverage.
The 2014 European Athletics Championships will take place at the Letzigrund stadium on the 12-17 August.
