One of the biggest individual high jump competitions of the summer takes place in Germany this weekend - and Europe's two world champions will be chasing further glory.

The 35th Internationales Hochspung-Meeting in Eberstadt starts on Friday afternoon with the under-23 event and then on Saturday, Ukrainian Bohdan Bondarenko takes part in the men's event and on Sunday, Russia's Svetlana Shkolina is in action.

Bondarenko has had an amazing year, which he sealed with his success at last week's IAAF World Championships in Moscow when he equalled the world-leading mark of 2.41m which he had set in Lausanne last month.

In this European Athletics Special Premium Meeting, he faces, among others, Russia's Ivan Ukhov, the Olympic champion who was fourth in Moscow.

Shkolina is enjoying a fabulous spell and her opposition includes Spain's Ruth Beitia, the European champion indoors and out and who was third behind the Russian in Moscow.

The meeting starts today with the under-23 events and it will be a busy few days for Great Britain's Isobel Pooley.

Her 1.91m puts her top of the field on personal bests in the under-23s and she will then compete in the senior competition on Sunday.

Germany's Mateusz Przybylko, with a pb of 2.24m, is favourite to take the men's under-23 crown.
