Recent days have seen the hosting of two important European Athletics Commission meetings to help support the delivery of the European Athletics Strategic Roadmap 2024-2027.

The Events and Competition Commission met in Bratislava, Slovakia on 17-18 March and the Development Commission met in Warsaw, Poland on 15-16 March.

Strategic Roadmap

The Development Commission was opened by European Athletics Vice President and Commission Chair Karin Grute Movin and discussions about the Strategic Roadmap - and its three priorities of competition, digitalisation and innovation, and community - featured extensively on the agenda. 

The Commission meeting also included workshops on leadership, health and wellbeing and communications and featured presentations on European Athletics' new eLearning platform, the Future Leaders Programme and the 2025 Education Plan. 

Filip Moterski of the host Member Federation also gave an insightful presentation on the Polish federarion's athletic development plans.

In the coming weeks, European Athletics will keep the wider athletics community informed of the work of the Development Commission with more details about the progress made in the specific areas of health and wellbeing, leadership and sustainability.

Productive meeting

The Events and Competition Commission in Bratislava and enjoyed an equally productive meeting, headed by European Athletics Vice President and Commission Chair Cherry Alexander.

The group discussed several new proposals, this included:

  • The introduction of European U23 short track records, reflecting the established U23 outdoor records.
  • The recognition of the best performances in the road mile at the end of 2024 as the European Record.
  • The qualification system and standards for next year’s European Athletics Indoor Championships, European Athletics U23 Championships, European Athletics U20 Championships.

The proposals will be considered for approval at the European Athletics Council meeting on 19-21 April in Rome.
