Coaching Junior Athletes – a European Athletics Coaches seminar – will take place this weekend (5-6) on the eve of the Jerusalem 2023 European Athletics U20 Championships.
Team coaches attending the European Athletics U20 Championships will attend the seminar at the Ramada Hotel Jerusalem, which will be opened by European Athletics Council member Erich Teigamagi.
After a short welcome and presentation of the seminar concept by European Athletics and the LOC, attendees will be treated to three inspirational TED talks on different sport science topics, including:
- Physiology – Altitude training for youth, by Keren Constantini (ISR)
- Nutrition – What teenagers eat, by Tamar Amiri Ashlagi (ISR)
- Psychology – The rule of Mental Aspect, by Oren Huberman (ISR)
This will be followed by a series of informative presentations from high-performance coaches, including:
- Road to a Youth Championship for Pole Vaulters, by Boris Zengaffinen (SUI)
- Transition from Talent to international high performance, by Renaud Longuevre (ISR)
- Coaching and Parenting of a World Class Jumper, by Dragutin Topic (SRB)
- Training for Change of Pace, by Geoff Wightman (GBR)
The opening day will be concluded with an open panel session with Zengaffinen, Longuevre, Topic and Wightman.
Day two will see two more presentations – ‘The Heat of the Call Room’ and ‘LTAD Methodology’ – by Renaud Longuevre, who coached French World and European Athletics champions Ladji Doucouré and Muriel Hurtis-Houairi.
There will also be a 'Call Room and Starter Session' workshop held at the Givat Ram Stadium, which will host the European Athletics U20 Championships from 7-10 August, by Rafi Grodetzki (ISR), before the seminar closes with a summary and open discussion.
