The 10 nominees for the annual male Rising Star award have been announced across Twitter and Facebook as part of the social media vote with the nominees for the rest of the categories to be announced tomorrow.

The winner of the male and female Rising Star and Athlete of the Year awards will be presented with their accolades at the annual Golden Tracks award ceremony in Lausanne, Switzerland on Friday 26 October.

The social media vote accounts for 25 percent of the overall vote with the media vote, Member Federation vote and the European Athletics Expert Panel vote also accounting for 25 percent of the vote each.

Voting remains open on social media until 12.00 CET on Friday 5 October. The votes on Twitter and Facebook will be combined in order to determine the outcome of the social media vote.

The three finalists in each category will be announced shortly after on social media.

The Rising Star awards were first handed out in 2007 to recognise exceptional emerging talents. The inaugural winners of the award were Jessica Ennis-Hill and Andrew Howe and athletes to win since then have included Christophe Lemaitre, David Storl, Sandra Perkovic, Mariya Lasitskene and Nafissatou Thiam.

Last year’s winner was Norway’s Karsten Warholm who won the European U23 title in Bydgoszcz before becoming the youngest ever winner of the 400m hurdles title at the IAAF World Championships in London.
