With close to 2,000 combined likes, retweets & shares, Mayer was the winner on the men’s as a reward for his huge breakthrough in Rio winning silver behind USA’s Ashton Eaton with a national record 8834 points, the best total by a European athlete in 12 years!

Mayer broke several personal bests demonstrating such a high level of performance and consistency. His score places him as the sixth best performer in history and at just the age of 24 he will likely continue to improve.

Meanwhile, Stefanidi won the women’s voting with an overwhelming 3,500 facebook likes & shares. She followed up her European pole vault title with gold in Rio in a thrilling duel with Sandi Morris of the USA. She defeated the American on countback with 4.85m having survived a last minute scare as Morris came very close to clearing the next height.

She became the first Greek woman to win an Olympic field event gold in the history of the Games.
