The first meeting of the new European Athletics Medical and Anti-Doping Commission that will hold office from 2019-2021 took place in Lausanne on 14-15 October.

New member Marianna Kiss was welcomed and two retiring members, Frédéric Dépiesse and Peter Hammersbach, were thanked for their service on the previous Commission.

The meeting started with a refresher webinar for the Doping Control Delegate panel, which saw 22 participants: 18 panel members and three speakers.

Later, the Commission discussed and reviewed the most recent issues and current projects relating to medical, nutritional, and event organisational matters from a doping control perspective.

Among the scientific updates were details on new doping detection methods and related issues in this area as well as the correct handling of blood samples.

Revised nutritional guidelines were also discussed in order to offer better support and assistance to the event organisers, including Local Organising Committees of European Athletics competitions, with the aim of eventually offering better services to participating teams at these events.

The Commission also received an update about the most recent scientific developments in their sphere of interest ahead of the World Anti-Doping Association (WADA) World Conference on Doping in Sport which will be held in Katowice, Poland between 5-7 November.
