The Local Organising Committee of the 2011 European Athletics U23 Championships, to be held in the Czech city of Ostrava, has reached an agreement with national carrier Czech Airlines to ensure that high-capacity aircrafts with a higher frequency of flights in and out of Ostrava are available around the event scheduled for 14-17 July.
“It is very important to ensure that accessibility to the city is smooth during the championships in 2011. Both the LOC and European Athletics are very happy about the fact that we were able to successfully negotiate for a specific reservation code from Czech Airlines that will make sure the whole process of transportation runs smoothly next year,” said Sarka Mokra, the chief co-ordinator of the event and a member of the LOC of Ostrava 2011.
A European Athletics delegation recently visited the city and expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made for accommodation of athletes and officials, the venues for the ceremonies and the European Athletics Official Dinner.
A brand new scoreboard will also be installed at the City Stadium of Vitkovice, the venue for the 2011 championships, later this year.
