Norway&rsquo;s Sander Skotheim dominated the heptathlon at the Tallinn 2024 World Athletics Combined Events Tour Silver meeting this weekend, winning in the Estonian capital for the second year in a row.&nbsp;
The European indoor silver medallist won with a total of 6281 points, the second best score of his career behind his Norwegian record of 6318 points from Istanbul 2023 last year when he won silver behind Kevin Mayer.
Skotheim excelled in the jumps again with individual performances of 7.83m in the long jump for an outright lifetime best, 2.09m in the high jump and 5.04m in the pole vault.&nbsp;

The 21-year-old, who led after the first day with 101 points, ended up winning by exactly 300 points from Czechia&rsquo;s Vilem Strasky (5981 points) with Lithuania&rsquo;s Edgaras Benkunskas third with 5871 points.
In the context of the Estonian Championships, Hans-Christian Hausenberg won the national title after finishing fourth overall with 5774 points.
In the pentathlon, Ukraine&rsquo;s Yuliya Loban held on for the overall victory and was also rewarded with a lifetime best of 4537 points.&nbsp;
Loban gritted out an indoor lifetime best of 2:18.44 in the 800m which proved just enough to hold off Sweden&rsquo;s Bianca Salming who clocked 2:15.87 to close the gap to four points.&nbsp;
The Swede&rsquo;s overall score of 4533 points was also a lifetime best, smashing her previous mark of 4422 points which dated back to 2020.
Germany&rsquo;s Vanessa Grimm was third with 4494 points while Croatia&rsquo;s precocious all-round talent Jana Koscak - who still has two seasons left as an U20 athlete - finished sixth with a Croatian record of 4436 points.&nbsp;
Katrin Sofia Palm finished ninth overall and won the Estonian title with a lifetime best of 4315 points.&nbsp;
<h2 dir="ltr">Wightman back on track with second in Boston</h2>
Following a year of competitive inactivity due to injury, 2022 world 1500m gold medallist Jake Wightman returned to the track at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston with an indoor personal best.
The British athlete finished second in the 1500m in 3:34.06, just four-tenth behind world road mile champion Hobbs Kessler (USA) at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold event on Sunday (4).
Nonetheless, it was a satisfactory return to action for the British athlete - also a European 800m silver medallist two years ago - who will be looking to get back into the championship medal mix this summer.
Ireland&rsquo;s European 800m bronze medallist Mark English took on the rarely run 600m and was rewarded with victory in a national record of 1:16:64, edging out Puerto Rico&rsquo;s John Rivera by just 0.03.
In the field, Great Britain&rsquo;s Jacob Fincham-Dukes, fifth at the Munich 2022 European Athletics Championships equalled his lifetime best, placing second in the long jump with 8.08m.

Belgium&rsquo;s Pieter Sisk won the 1000m at the IFAM Indoor Meeting in Gent, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Bronze meeting, on Saturday (3) in a Belgian indoor record of 2:17.17. His time was a world lead until Canada&rsquo;s Marco Arop clocked 2:14.74 in Boston on Sunday evening.&nbsp;
World 4x400m champion Cathelijn Peeters from the Netherlands won the individual 400m in 52.51 and Belgium&rsquo;s Rani Rosius clocked 7.21 in the 60m heat before winning the 60m final in 7.29. There were also notable wins for Tibo de Smet in the 800m in 1:47.13 and 2021 European indoor champion Elisa Vanderelst in the 1500m in 4:07.96.&nbsp;
Zane Weir and Leonardo Fabbri took an Italian one-two in the men&rsquo;s shot put at the Rochlitz Shot Put Meeting, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Challenger event, with 21.38m and 21.06m respectively.&nbsp;
China&rsquo;s Gong Lijiao won the women&rsquo;s shot put competition with 19.66m ahead of Germany&rsquo;s world finalist Yemisi Ogunleye with 19.44m - the third best mark of her career.&nbsp;
At the Dutch Indoor Combined Events Championships in Apeldoorn, European U23 silver medallist Sofie Dokter scored 4553 points to win the pentathlon title while Sven Jansons won the heptathlon title with 6025 points.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Serbia&rsquo;s Angelina Topic was the star on home soil at the Balkan Indoor U20 Championships, winning both the high jump (1.85m) and long jump (6.41m) titles.
Rising Croatian stars Roko Farkas - who is also a promising combined eventer - won the 60m title in 6.71 and Mia Wild took victories in both the women&rsquo;s 60m (7.35) and 60m hurdles (8.21).

Skotheim tallies 6281 points for heptathlon victory in Tallinn

Maria Vicente made a welcome return to the combined events at the X-Athletics Meeting in Aubi&egrave;re, a World Athletics Combined Events Tour Silver Meeting, on Sunday (28).

After focusing on the horizontal jumps on her comeback from injury in 2023, Vicente capped her comeback with victory in the French town with a world-leading pentathlon score and Spanish record of 4728 points.&nbsp;

Vicente, who demonstrated her versatility by winning the triple jump title at the European Athletics U23 Championships last summer, began her campaign by equalling her lifetime best of 8.24 in the 60m hurdles which was followed by a 1.76m clearance in the high jump.&nbsp;
Her afternoon continued to gather momentum with an outright lifetime best of 13.84m in the shot put to take the lead, an excellent 6.65m in the long jump which yielded 1056 points and another outright lifetime best of 2:15.50 in the 800m.&nbsp;
An excellent weekend for Italian athletics also continued on Sunday after four national records fell on Saturday. Sveva Gerevini finished second behind Vicente with an Italian record of 4538 points with Hungary&rsquo;s Szabina Szucs third with a lifetime best of 4491 points.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Two-time world heptathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson from Great Britain pulled out of the competition in the days leading up to the meeting.&nbsp;
Switzerland&rsquo;s Simon Ehammer took his third heptathlon victory at the X-Athletics Meeting but he was pushed all the way by France&rsquo;s Makenson Gletty.&nbsp;
A 95-point cushion after the pole vault evaporated to just 12 points after the 1000m with Gletty making up significant ground on Ehammer in the concluding event, gritting out a 2:42.02 clocking to Ehammer&rsquo;s 2:49.78.&nbsp;

But this was just enough for Ehammer - who produced the best performances across the weekend in the long jump (7.63m), 60m hurdles (7.71) and pole vault (5.21m) - to hold onto the victory, yielding a score of 6242 points with Gletty rewarded with a lifetime best total of 6230 points.
Czechia&rsquo;s Ondrej Kopecky finished third with 6018 points.

<h2 dir="ltr">Weir launches a world lead of 21.84m in Nordhausen</h2>
Reigning European indoor champion Zane Weir launched a world leading mark of 21.84m at the Nordhausen-Indoor Kugelstossen, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Challenger event, on Sunday (28) afternoon.
Less than 24 hours after winning at the ORLEN Cup in Lodz, Weir's teammate and training partner Leonardo Fabbri took the lead in the second round with a season's best of 21.67m but Weir responded in the fourth round with a heave of 21.84m. Bosnia and Herzegovina's 2013 European 20 champion Mesud Pezer was third with 21.12m, just 10cm short of his recent national indoor record.
In the women's shot put, Germany's 2023 World Athletics Championships finallist Yemisi Ogunleye upset reigning world champion Chase Ealey who now competes under her married name of Jackson.
Ogunleye set an outright lifetime best of 19.57m - 13cm further than she had ever putted befoer - in the first round which withstood the challenge of Jackson, whose best mark was measured at 19.45m in the third round.&nbsp;

European indoor 60m hurdles champion Jason Joseph clocked 7.55 in the heats and 7.60 in the final of the Biel/Bienne Athletics Hallenmeeting, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Challenger event, in Magglingen on Saturday (27).
Two-time European U20 800m champion Audrey Werro won the 600m on Sunday (28) in a world leading 1:26.38 ahead of Valentina Rosamilla (1:26.80) who also won the 800m in 2:02.99.
At the Miting Internacional Catalunya, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Challenger meeting, in Sabadell on Saturday (27) there were good performances from Britons Sarah McDonald who won the 1500m ahead of Esther Guerrero - 4:07.65 to 4:07.75 - and Amelia Campbell (Strickler) who won the shot put with 18.03m.&nbsp;
In Apeldoorn on Saturday (27), Robin Van Riel won the 1500m in a Dutch record and early season world lead of 3:36.32. Belgium&rsquo;s Pieter Sisk won the 800m in 1:46.10 and world 4x400m champion Cathelijn Peeters won the 400m in an indoor lifetime best of 52.59.
At the Flemish Indoor Championships in Gent on Sunday (28), 800m specialist Tibo de Smet won the 400m in 46.59 and world indoor pentathlon champion Noor Vidts won the 60m hurdles in 8.33.&nbsp;
Florentina Iusco achieved an impressive 6.74m/13.85m double in the long jump and triple jump at the Romania Cup in Bucharest.

Vicente scores world pentathlon lead of 4728 points on her combined events comeback in Aubière

Switzerland&rsquo;s 2019 European U20 decathlon champion Simon Ehammer tallied a sizeable heptathlon score at the X-Athletics Meeting in Aubiere in France this weekend (29-30), a World Indoor Tour Bronze meeting.
His overall tally of 6285 points was both a world lead as well as a Swiss record. Still only 21, his score has only been bettered at U23 level globally by Ashton Eaton and Kevin Mayer, the previous and current world decathlon record-holders.
Ehammer set himself up for a big score by leaping out to an incredible 8.26m in the long jump to rack up 1128 points. This mark was both a world lead and a Swiss record in its own right as well as a world heptathlon best, displacing the previous mark of 8.16m set by Eaton en route to his still-standing world record of 6645 points.

Ehammer led overnight by almost 300 points with 3600 points and he opened his second day in lifetime best form, clocking 7.74 in the 60m hurdles to finish 0.01 behind Mayer who was competing in selected events as part of his build-up to the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade.
The pole vault proved to be Ehammer&rsquo;s undoing during the last indoor season when he no-heighted in two competitions - including the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun when he was in medal contention - but the Swiss athlete came one event closer to his senior combined events breakthrough by clearing 5.03m on his third attempt for his second lifetime best of the day.
Ehammer concluded his competition by clocking 2:54.68 in the 1000m which brought his total up to 6285 points. He broke his Swiss record by 193 points and also eclipsed the previous world lead set one day earlier in the United States by Puerto Rico&rsquo;s Ayden Owens by 13 points.

Ehammer also led Switzerland to a 1-2-3 with Andri Oberholzer (5960 points) and Finley Gaio (5838 points) rounding off the podium.
Reigning European U23 heptathlon champion Adrianna Sulek from Poland also achieved a world leading score of 4569 points in the pentathlon to defeat Spain&rsquo;s Maria Vicente (4495 points) and Leonie Cambours (4457 points). 
In fourth, Sveva Gerevini set an Italian record of 4434 points.

Stanek turns tables on Thomsen; meeting records for Gambetta and Carmoy in Nehvizdy
European indoor champion Tomas Stanek produced a home victory at the Hvezdy V Nehvizdech, a World Indoor Tour Silver meeting, just outside the Czech capital Prague on Sunday (30) evening.
In a competition which is named after the legendary Helena Fibingerova who was in attendance, Stanek laid down a marker in the first round with 20.91m which stood the test of the next five rounds. In doing so, Stanek turned the tables on Norway&rsquo;s Marcus Thomsen who had defeated Stanek three days prior in Kladno.
Thomsen had to settle for second with 20.68m while Bosnia &amp; Herzegovina&rsquo;s Mesud Pezer was third in a season&rsquo;s best of 20.47m. The top six throwers all surpassed the 20 metre-line.

Germany&rsquo;s Sara Gambetta also won the women&rsquo;s shot put with her opening throw of the competition which landed at both a meeting record as well as outright lifetime best of 18.90m.&nbsp;
The former heptathlete won ahead of Canada&rsquo;s Sarah Mitton (18.65m) and teammate Katharina Maisch (18.56m) with European indoor silver medallist Fanny Roos from Sweden fourth with 18.44m. Contuining her farewell tour, former world and European champion Christina Schwanitz from Germany finished fifth but improved her season's best to 17.94m.&nbsp;
Belgium&rsquo;s Thomas Carmoy took a surprise victory over soon-to-be Olympic champion Gianmarco Tamberi from Italy last year and the former European U20 champion ensured back-to-back wins with a meeting record clearance of 2.27m.
Carmoy won on countback from Malaysia&rsquo;s Nauraj Singh Randhawa with the precocious JuVaughn Harrison, who reached the Olympic final in both the long jump and high jump in Tokyo last year, third on his European debut with 2.23m.
