The unique 'Ice Athletics Symposium' on the roof of the popular Harfa Gallery shopping mall in Prague welcomed some of the best Czech athletic stars last Sunday 8 February.
Medallists from world and European championships like Zuzana Hejnová, Pavel Maslák, Ji…™ina Ptáčniková, Jan Kudlička or Petr Svoboda gathered to announce the results of the sculptors´ contest, which was held over the weekend.
Ten ice statues had been created within this Ice Athletics event which was organised to support the upcoming European Athletics Indoor Championships in Prague.
All the athletes, who saw their ice sculptures were very surprised by the result and were also able to recognise themselves in the art works.
Of course I can recognise myself in this statue, I am very surprised by the result of this symposium and by how the ice sculptures look. The organisers only called me four days ago to invite me for this event so I was very curious about it. I like this idea very much.
Ladislav Prášil, the shot put bronze medallist from Gothenburg 2013, was also very satisfied with his own ice statue: “I like it very much. I think it is a great promotion for athletics.”
The visitors of the exhibition voted for the most beautiful sculpture. The most popular work of art came from the artist Wladyslaw Bludnik who created the figure of the Czech pole vault bronze medallist from Zurich, Jan Kudlička.

This is a first for me – I have never had a statue in my life, I like the fact that it is different than if it was made by some athletic specialist. That is the beauty of the art.
A special piece by Tomáš Bosambo was created for ‘Little Mole’ who will be accompanying athletes and fans throughout the Championships.
